Plague of plasticsWhen checking out at the grocery store, you may think that the plastic bag you’re being offered is free. The truth, however, is that from the beginning of its life cycle, the plastic bag brings costs too great to ignore. The price is paid by our air, our oceans, wild animals, and even the human economy. Just look around and you’ll notice the bags are everywhere, they’re hanging in trees, floating on the side of the road, in the bay...everywhere.

Plastics do not biodegrade; no naturally occurring organisms can break down the polymers in plastic. Instead, plastic photodegrades: sunlight breaks the plastic down into smaller and smaller pieces until plastic dust remains.

Broken down plastic dust may be small, but can still be consumed by birds, fish, and sea turtles, and interferes with natural ecosystems. In the central North Pacific, researchers have found six pounds of degraded plastic for every one pound of surface zooplankton.

There is only one way out from the damage that we have caused to the environment, purchase sturdy, environmentally friendly, reusable bags. Scale back the role plastic bags play in your life.
Do some thing before our children face a day when birds and turttles are historical animals, like dinosaures are for now.

The waste created by plastic is bad for planet's health and the production of plastic is much harmful to the environment. the product is made from petroleum and the refining process puts toxins into atmosphere. All the plastic used by countries like USA feeds into foreign oil dependency. A data says that the US use 16% of the 20,730,000 barrels of oil each day to make plastic and other materials.

It takes a much energy to produce plastic with chemicals harmful for human body. It releases more harmful chemicals in the environment because it is not quick biodegradable because it's usually buried under so much trash it can't be exposed to oxygen and sunlight. The government should make tough policies to stop the production and use of plastic.

Advantages of plastics: The durability, low cost, water and chemical resistance, lesser energy and heavy chemicals requirements in manufacturing, light weight are some of the advantages of plastic bags. The plastic bags have less net environmental effect than that of paper bags. The recycling rates for plastic are significantly lower than for paper bags. Plastic bags are stable and benign in sanitary landfills.
